What does the expression “iPhonization” of food mean? This term describes the global standardization of food tastes promoted by multinational corporations. This trend utilizes tools such as simplified labeling like Nutriscore and specific taxes to steer consumers’ food choices towards products considered healthier.
.
While these practices are promoted as solutions to combat obesity and cardiovascular diseases, they have not been shown to significantly improve public health. Additionally, these policies are often driven by NGOs and activists funded by public institutions, influencing policies without tangible benefits for consumers.
.
In the interview, Paganini also discussed the failure of consumer education policies which, instead of addressing the quality of diet and lifestyle, merely impose restrictions that penalize local products and gastronomic diversity, favoring the economic interests of large multinationals.
.
In conclusion, it is essential to adopt a more holistic approach to food education, one that does not rely solely on simplistic indicators but considers the unique caloric and nutritional needs of each individual, promoting a true balance between health, economy, and food culture.
