Front-of-Pack labelling: a three-moves reform

Informing citizens, ensuring food stability, preserving regional diversity

.

European Parliament, Room A5H1

March 21st – 6:00 pm CET

.

The European Commission is working on the reform of Front-of-Pack labelling with the aim of guiding European citizens towards a more balanced, healthy and sustainable diet. In this regard, the reform must protect and promote the fundamental values of the EU:

  • Encourage the spread of knowledge to promote informed and free choices;
  • Promote free trade and entrepreneurship;
  • Value the diversity and culinary traditions that characterise the many European cultures.

It is therefore worrying that some of the proposals currently under consideration by the European Commission may undermine these principles and fail to achieve the objective of improving the health of European citizens. The conference will discuss the state of the reform, possible proposals, and the opportunities they present as well as any threats to the fundamental values on which the EU is based.
